About the Book

A Pirate Goes to School

This book was written for all children who are nervous about starting anywhere afresh, not knowing how to make new friends, and how to strive for acceptance. This is also about being proud of who you are, acknowledging your uniqueness and strength, and always being a little whimsical in the process

To the readers, children, and adults sharing the journey with Polly and Preeti, I welcome you to the world of a funny grade three classroom, nervous characters, friendship, surprises, and a rather goofy pirate wannabe.

Aaarrgghh Mateys! Please embark on this lovely little journey to the world of acceptance, friendship, new beginnings, bravery, and a dash of silliness.

About the Book

Hello Charlie!: Love Finds A Puppy

When little Chloe wakes up with a terrible tummy ache, a hospital visit brings a big surprise — and not just an operation. With the help of the eccentric and kind-hearted Doctor Dougal, who wears a different silly hat each day hiding a delightful surprise, Chloe’s journey through recovery becomes magical. From a belching frog to a bouncing joey, a toothy beaver to a cheeky eagle, Chloe is enchanted by the strange and wonderful animals that emerge from the doctor’s hats. But the one thing she hopes for most is waiting for the very end — her very own puppy, Charlie.

A heartwarming tale of courage, healing, and the power of imagination, Hello Charlie! reassures young readers facing medical fears and celebrates the joy that comes after bravery.

I’m so proud of my friend & former Vice-Principal Maria Daniel Parris on her first picture book, A Pirate Goes to School. The story is about a young girl named Polly who sounds different than her classmates. In fact, one of her classmates thinks she sounds a lot like a pirate. Instead of shrinking back in embarrassment, Polly reframes the teasing & becomes a pirate! She quickly becomes a hit at school and her classmates organize a Halloween surprise she’ll never forget.

This is a great beginning of the school year book for teachers to share & it’s also a perfect Halloween-ish read-aloud with a poignant message of friendship, acceptance & celebrating differences.

Wishing you all the best @parrismariadaniel! You’re an author my friend!! Insert excited screaming here
